I am of the opinion that unless the the outer shell (outer covering of the coconut) is hit hard the amrit (coconut water) cannot be tasted.

Similarly sometimes ego requires hard hitting in order to make the room for understanding to happen.

All the Masters have used this technique to break the linear(logical) thinking (mechanism which is responsible for creating an appearance of non-existent ego) of mind at some point of time in their own various ways.

In every "fruitful discussion" ( It happens only when the participants have at least not attached to name,religion,belief,post,position in society etc.) on any topic between two persons one's ego out of two is bound to perish either by persuasion (which takes too much time especially in case of a rigid believer) or by hurt (which forces the person to introspect about the status of his ego) , otherwise there is no chance of up-liftment of understanding.
