Down-To-Earth Freedom from the Human Condition – Happy and Harmless in This Lifetime

Introducing Richards---Step out of the ‘real’ world into the actual world ... and leave your ‘self’ behind http://actualfreedom.com.au/

The way of becoming actually free is both simple and practical.

One starts by dismantling the shadowy social identity which has been overlaid, from birth onward, on top of the innate self until one is virtually free from all the social mores and psittacisms (those mechanical repetitions of previously received ideas or images, reflecting neither apperception nor autonomous reasoning).

One can be virtually free from all the beliefs, ideas, values, theories, truths, customs, traditions, ideals, superstitions and all the other schemes and dreams.

One can become aware of all the socialisation, of all the conditioning, of all the programming, of all the methods and techniques which were used to produce what one feels and thus thinks oneself to be: a wayward identity careering around in confusion and illusion.

A ‘mature adult’ is actually a lost, lonely, frightened and very cunning entity.

However, it is never too late to start in on uncovering and discovering what one actually is.

One can become virtually free from all the insidious feelings – the emotions and passions and calentures – which fuel the mind and give credence to all the illusions and delusions and fantasies and hallucinations which masquerade as visions of The Truth.

One can become virtually free of all that which has encumbered humans with misery and despair and live in a state of virtual freedom … which is beyond ‘normal’ human expectations anyway.

Then, and only then, can the day of destiny dawn wherein one becomes actually free. One will have obtained release from one’s fate and achieved one’s birthright … and the world will be all the better for it.

It is now possible.

Why do you plan in spiritualism ? Have you not seen your plan getting failed ?

Why do you plan in spiritualism ? Have you not seen your plan getting failed ?

Do you remember your plan of your conceiving in the womb?

Do you remember your plan of coming out of the womb ,birth ?

Do you remember your plan how to grow physically and mentally ?

Do you remember plans of your childhood and youth (may be in school/college ) and if at all there were did you succeed with 100% output?

Is it not true that in most of the cases wherever you are there in stage of your life, you had never thought of ?

Is it not true that in most of the cases you have failed/not succeeded whatsoever you had planned for different things at different stages of life despite the hard fact that you had spent so much of energy to succeed?

Have you ever thought that what is the %-age of the result vis-a-vis your energy spent in order to achieve """ANYHOW"""?

Can it be said that this happened (too much of energy loss) only because of your rigidity in the process of implementation ? In other words can it not be said that you resisted too much with the flow of nature which consumed your more than required energy which could have been saved if flexibility was maintained in the process i.e. flowing with the Nature?

Can it be said that whenever you have even succeeded is merely a coincidence or that was destined to happen in the way that has happened ?

Do you have any idea whether any part of your body function as per its(that part) plan like we plan(thinking)? I don't think so.

Does anybody plan for his death ?

Can you point out any process/phenomenon in the nature where any rigid plan is being followed ?

Will the above facts/principles not applicable in search of oneself i.e. so called spirituality where the chances of success is very very dim/low in compared to objective goal ?

Does it not imply from the above that ""conservation of especially mental energy""" is the most important part of life?

I think happiness/bliss/ecstasy are adjectives of manifestations of energy and are directly proportional to the quantum of energy remaining unspent. it is a fact that you don't have any control over production of energy because it is a happening.

It appears to me that we can only stop the wastage of energy not by doing anything but flowing with the nature i.e. not having rigidity in implementation of planning. This is the only and easy way to increase the availability of quantum of energy thereby reaching towards more and more happiness/bliss/ecstasy whatever you name it.

Is it not true that in spirituality our search is for for the peak of happiness/bliss/ecstasy ? If it is so why do we need practices ?

The enlightened answering machine

The enlightened answering machine

Nisargadatta Maharaj -

"Hi! This is Maharaj. I am not home right now. But in reality, I have never left. I have been here before you called and will be here after you hang up."

Ramesh Balsekar -

"Hello! This body-mind organism known as Ramesh is not available right now. Looks like that is your destiny. If it is God's will, your call will be answered."

Gurdjieff -

"Hello! This is Gurdjieff............STOP!"

Ramana -

"My dear! I don't know who is calling. But if I were you, I would ask myself - Who am I? When you will find the answer, you won't need to call me again."

Zen Master -

"Sitting silently, doing nothing Phone rings, and answering machine starts by itself."

Gautam the Buddha -

"Life is suffering. To call someone is a suffering. When the person is not there, there's more suffering. You leave a message, he doesn't reply answer your call so there's even more suffering. Remember! Life is suffering."

Kiranbhai

(a disciple of Osho who generally says that there is no need to do anything. Enlightenment will happen by itself.) -
"Hello! This is Kiranbhai. I am not home right now. But there is no need to call again, there's no need to leave a message and so there's no need to for me to call you back also. In fact, if you want to try, there's no need to pay your phone bill also. Thank you for calling!"

Finally I dialed:

Punjaji

but by mistake the line went to Lord Krishna's residence (the usual phenomenon in India). As we all know Krishna's famous quote was -
"Whatever happened, happened for good. Whatever is happening, is happening for good and whatever will happen will happen for good. What have you lost that you are crying for? Whatever you have gained, you have gained here. Whatever you have lost, you have lost here. What belongs to you today, belonged to someone else yesterday and will belong to someone else tomorrow. CHANGE is the eternal rule of life. So don't focus on the result but do your karma."

Krishna-

(his answering machine detects wrong numbers automatically.)
"My beloved! Although I am omnipresent, I am not available right now. And by the way, you have dialed a wrong number. But no problem. Whatever happened, happened for good. Whatever is happening, is happening for good and whatever will happen will happen for good. Why are you crying since you lost only one rupee. Whatever number you dialed, you dialed it right here. The number which is my today belonged to someone else yesterday and will be someone else's number tomorrow. CHANGE in the telephone numbers is the eternal rule of Indian telephone exchange. So don't worry about the result and just do your karma. Dial the right number."

Osho -

" Hello! This is Osho.....Never born, never died. Never picked up a phone. Only kept his answering machine ON. I leave you my dream.....and you leave your message after the beep. Yahoo!"

Joke- latest technology

Joke- latest technology

Once upon a time, there was a software engineer who used to develop programs on his Pentium machine, sitting under a tree on the banks of a river.

He used to earn his bread by selling those programs in the Sunday market.

One day, while he was working, his machine tumbled off the table and fell in the river.

Encouraged by the Panchatantra story of his childhood (the woodcutter and the axe), he started praying to the River Goddess. The River Goddess wanted to test him and so appeared only after one month of rigorous prayers.

The engineer told her that he had lost his computer in the river. As usual, the Goddess wanted to test his honesty.

She showed him a match box and asked, "Is this your computer ?"

Disappointed by the Goddess' lack of computer awareness, the engineer replied, "No."

She next showed him a pocket-sized calculator and asked if that was his.

Annoyed, the engineer said "No, not at all!!"

Finally, she came up with his own Pentium machine and asked if it was his.

The engineer, left with no option, sighed and said "Yes."

The River Goddess was happy with his honesty.

She was about to give him all three items, but before she could make the offer, the engineer asked her, "Don't you know that you're supposed to show me some better computers before bringing up my own ?"

The River Goddess, angered at this, replied, "I know that, you stupid idiot! The first two things I showed you were the Trillennium and the Billennium, the latest computers from IBM!" So saying, she disappeared with the Pentium!!

Moral: If you're not up-to-date with technology trends, it is better keep your mouth shut and let people think you're a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it !!!

Eckhart on Personal Love

Eckhart on Personal Love

Q: If we’re all one, why do we feel drawn toward certain individuals in an expression of “personal love”?

ET: True love is transcendental. Without recognition of the formless within yourself, there can be no true transcendental love. If you cannot recognize the formless in yourself, you cannot recognize yourself in the other. The recognition of the other as yourself in essence – not the form – is true love. As long as the conditioned mind operates and you are completely identified with it, there’s no true love. There may be substitutes, things that are called “love” but are not true love. For example, “falling in love”…perhaps most of us have experienced it. Maybe one or two at this moment are “in love”, and those who have experienced it have also experienced “falling out of love”.

We need to remember to understand [the difference between] true love and other forms of so-called love. We are in the relative as form, and in the absolute as formless consciousness. The two dimensions that the human being embodies are the ‘human’ and the ‘being’. The human is the form, the being is the formless, the timeless consciousness itself. It sometimes happens that the form has an affinity with other forms. It could happen for a number of reasons. One being that this form has come out of another form – called your mother – and so there is an affinity of this form with that other form. You have a love toward your mother that might be called ‘personal’. Another aspect of affinity with another form is male/female. You can be drawn to another body in a sexual way, and it’s sometimes called “love”. Especially if the sexual act is denied long enough, it’s more likely to develop into obsessive love…so much so, that in cultures where you could not have sex until you were married, falling in love could be a huge thing and could lead to suicide. Naturally, there is an affinity of the male/female, the incompleteness of this form. The primary incompleteness of this form is that you are either a man or a woman. The oneness has become the duality of male/female.

The pull towards the other is an attempt to find wholeness, completeness, fulfillment through the opposite polarity, in an attempt to find the Oneness. That lies at the basis of the attraction. It’s to do with form, because on the level of form you are not whole – you are one half of the whole. One half of humanity is male, one half is female, roughly.

You have the attraction for the other, then there may be finding certain qualities in another human being that resonate with certain qualities in yourself. Or, if they don’t resonate, it may be the opposite that you feel drawn to. If you are a very peaceful person, maybe you feel drawn toward a dramatic person, or vice-versa. And again, you are hoping for some completion there. You can have an affinity with another form, which can be called ‘personal love’. If personal love is all that there is, then what is missing is the transcendental dimension of the formless – which is where true love arises. Is that part of the personal love, or is the personal level all that there is? That determines whether that so-called “love” is going to turn into something painful eventually, and frustrating, or if there is a deepening.

There may be an attraction that is initially sexual between two humans. If they start living together, this cannot endure for that long and be the fulfillment of the relationship. At some point, sexual/emotional [attraction] needs to deepen and the transcendental dimension needs to come in, to some extent, for it to deepen. Then true love shines through the personal. The important thing is that true love emanates from the timeless, non-formal dimension of who you are. Is that shining through the personal love that is to do with affinity of forms? If it is not, there is complete identification with form, and complete identification with form is ego.

Many times you may think “that’s it!” and after living together for a little while you realize “that was a mistake”, or “I was completely deluded”. Even in parent-children relationships, which is a very close bond on the level of form, if the transcendental dimension does not shine through, eventually the love between children and parents turns into something else. This is why so many people have very problematic relationships with their parents.

Some relationships may start as purely form-based, and then the other dimension comes in after a while. Perhaps only after a lot of problems, and perhaps you get close to a breakup, when suddenly there is a deepening and then you are able to bring in space.

The key is to ask, “Is there space in this relationship?” Or are there only thoughts and emotions? It’s dreadful prison to inhabit if you live with a person and all you have are thoughts and emotions. Occasionally you are okay, but there is disagreement, friction.

We need to acknowledge that there are personal affinities. But in themselves, they are never ultimately fulfilling. More often than not, they are a source of suffering. Love becomes a source of suffering when the transcendental is missing. How does the transcendent come in? By being spacious with the other. Which essentially means that you access the Stillness in yourself while you look at the other.

Not mental noise, not emotional waves. That does not mean that there cannot be emotions or thoughts, but there is something else present in the relationship. That applies not only to close personal relationships, but also to more superficial relationships at work.

With any human relationship, the question is, “Is there space?” It’s a pointer. Space is when thought becomes unimportant – even an emotion becomes unimportant.

When people live together, sometimes the other is no longer acknowledged in daily life because there is so much to do. If you wake up in the morning, is there a moment when you acknowledge the presence of the other?

It’s the most wonderful thing if you can be there for the other as space, rather than as a person. At this very moment, you can either be here as a person, or you can be here as

Who am I ?---Bagavath

Who am I ?---Bagavath

Who am I ?

Somebody asks you , “ who are you ?

What will be your answer ?

Will you tell him , “ I am Atman ?

Certainly you will not tell him like that.

We do not know that we are Atman. So we will not say we are Atman.

We may define us to be something, related to our physical body. Or we may define us to be something , related to our psychological structure, — the mind.

Otherwise we may define us to be something , as the combination of both our physical body and psychological mind.

Even though we know everything through the sense organs of our body , we understand everything only through our mind. So, the psychological aspect – the mind, gets greater importance.

Even animals do have physical body. They have sense organs. But they do not have the psychological structure like us.

So, no animal will ask , ‘Who am I ?’ No animal will ask , ‘what is Atman ?’

Concerning with ourselves, our psychological structure gets greater importance.

Our mind alone says , “ I am”. It expresses itself as ‘ I am’. It also adopts our physical body as its part.

Our physical body will not say , ‘ I am’.

Concerning with ourselves, our mind alone is the I consciousness.

But according to our scriptures, our mind is not self luminous.

We know what the moon is and what the sun is. The moon is not self luminous ; but the sun is self luminous. The sunlight causes a reflection from the moon. Such reflected sunlight is considered as moonlight. The science says so .

In the same way, our mind is not self luminous. It gets illumination from the ‘ Brahman ’. Brahman means the totality of God. Brahman gives light to the mind, as the sun gives light to the moon.

The moon does not reflect the total light of the sun. It reflects, only a portion of the total sunlight , which touches the moon.

Even though a boat is floating upon the total sea , only a portion of water alone touches the boat.

In the same way, the limited portion of Brahman, which touches our mind, is known as Atman — koodastha – witness. The scriptures describe it so.

The light that touches the moon is nothing but a pure sunlight.

Afterwards it reflects as the moonlight.

The light is same. When it touches the moon, it is the sunlight. When it reflects from the moon, it is moonlight.

The moon does not have any light on its own . It converts the sunlight, into moonlight.

The sunlight which touches the moon , is known as koodastha — the pure consciousness of Brahman. The reflected light of the moon, the moonlight, is known as Chithabasan ( Chith + Abasan ) or Abasan.

Thereby, the limitless consciousness of Brahman, becomes the limited consciousness of the mind. The limited consciousness of the mind, is the Abasan. Abasan means both the intelligence and the ignorance of the mind.

There are many electrical apparatuses, functioning through electricity.

In an electrical apparatus, the same electric power is converted into light.

In another electric apparatus, the same electric power is converted into sound.

In the same way, the electric power is converted as heat or cold.

The electricity does not appear apparently.

It appears through the electrical apparatuses.

What we feel evidently are the impact, the light, the sound, the heat or cold. They are only the effects. They are not the cause. The cause is the electricity. The cause is the apparatus.

If we define electricity, in the language of light, we have to consider the electricity as light .

In the same way, if we define electricity, in the language of sound, then the electricity would be sound alone.

If we define the cause – the electricity, through the language of its effect, then the electricity itself would be a strange one ; It would be a self contradicting one.

The apparatuses are the cause for the different kinds of effect. The electric power activates only the apparatuses.

We cannot assess the nature and quality of electricity, through the effect of the apparatuses.

In the same way, knowing Atman by our mind and the sense organs is only an effect caused by the mind and the sense organs.

Actually, the Atman alone activates the mind and the sense organs, as same as electricity.

That is why, the scriptures say, “Atman is known only by Atman alone.”

In the same way, “animate one and the inanimate one” is the another classification that the scriptures describe about the Atman .

We have already seen that the sun is self luminous.

The illumination of the moon is nothing but the reflection of the sunlight . The moon has no capacity of illumination on its own. It illuminates only with the help of the sunlight.

If anything has life , on its own , it is known as animate one. The lifeless objects are called as inanimate things.

In this way of classification, Atman alone is one, having life on its own. The mind and our physical body are considered as lifeless materials, when compared to Atman.

We all know the functions of our physical body and our psychological mind . We can evidently understand their function. But we cannot evidently know the function of our Atman.

But our scriptures tell us , “Atman alone activates our physical body and psychological mind .Without Atman, our body and mind are nothing but inanimate materials.”

Not only that.

The scriptures express one another aspect of description.

It is subject and object.

I am seeing a tree.

Here, I am the seer ; the tree is the seen.

The seer is the subject and the seen is the object.

The seer, is the first person and the seen, is the second person.

Here, our mind, portrays itself as I am. Our mind, considers itself as the seer. It accommodates the body and says “ I am seeing” , “ I am eating ”.

The I consciousness means only our mind.

But according to the version of our spiritual scriptures, the Atman alone is the real subject ; the Atman alone is the real I consciousness ; the Atmanalone is the real first person ; the Atman is the real seer .

That is why, it is described, Atman cannot be seen or known by the mind.

It would be correct if one says , “The seer is seeing the seen”. It is normal and logical.

But it is abnormal if one would say , “The seen is seeing the seer”. It is most illogical and grammatically wrong.

The seer alone can be the subject.

He alone is the first person.

Our scriptures describe, “Atman alone is the seer ; Atman alone is the subject; Atman alone is the first person”.

Can we really make any effort for doing ---Talk with Ramana

Can we really make any effort for doing ---Talk with Ramana

Yogi Ramiah: All actions take place owing to Sakti [?]. How far does Sakti go? Can she effect anything without one's own effort?

M.: The answer to the question depends on what the Purusha [?] is understood to be. Is he the ego or the Self?

D.: Purusha is svarupa.

M.: But he cannot make any prayatna (effort).

D.: Jiva [?] is the one who makes the prayatna.

M.: So long as egoity lasts prayatna is necessary. When egoity ceases to be, actions become spontaneous. The ego acts in the presence of the Self. He cannot exist without the Self. The Self makes the universe what it is by His Sakti, and yet He does not Himself act. Sri Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, "I am not the doer and yet actions go on". It is clear from the Mahabharata that very wonderful actions were effected by Him. Yet He says that He is not the doer. It is like the sun and the world actions.

D.: He is without abhimana [?] (attachment) whereas the jiva [?] is with abhimana.

M.: Yes. Being attached, he acts and also reaps the fruits. If the fruits are according to his desire he is happy; otherwise he is miserable. Happiness and misery are due to his attachment. If actions were to take place without attachment there would be no expectation of fruit.

D.: Can actions take place spontaneously without individual effort? Should we not cook our food in order to eat it later?

M.: Atman acts through the ego. All actions are due to efforts only. A sleeping child is fed by its mother. The child eats food without being wide awake and then denies having taken food in sleep. However the mother knows what happened.Similarly the Jnani [?] acts unawares. Others see him act, but he does not know it himself. Owing to fear of Him wind blows, etc. That is the order of things. He ordains everything and the universe acts accordingly, yet He does not know. Therefore He is called the great Doer. Every embodied being (ahankari) is bound by niyama [?]. Even Brahma cannot transgress it.

[This devotee later explained the significance of his question. He hears Sri Bhagavan say that the world goes on and the individual needs are met by Divine Will. But he finds that Sri Bhagavan wakes up the Asramites at about 4 a.m. to cut vegetables for the day's curry. He wanted to have the doubt cleared for his own benefit and the question was not meant for discussion].
